What is Devops?
September 11, 2020It's a discussion friends of mine have been having.
There are a lot of job posts out there that say something along the lines of:
- responsible for development pipeline
- on-call for production
- plan and automate systems build-out
And then they slap a label of "devops" on that. That's an operations sysadmin.
Devops is simple like Agile is simple. It has also been coopted like agile before it.
The devops process is carrying a solution from design and build through release. If you do it, you probably know 12ƒ well, can handle automation of deployment, and you're familiar with at least one managed tool for wiring an API to go-live.
Devops is a fusion of techniques and is hardly a job position.
Also, don't call me a devop.
